3RD STORY

MY BROTHER’S DEATH
Something has happened to me that I will never forget that was Sept. 2009.

The story is about the death of my full brother who was an accountant, banker as well as business and rich person but married uneducated woman who hardly finished Primary School here in Kano. The woman pretended to be a good wife he was even happy praising her, but unfortunately the woman was trying to conspire him and have power over him and his wealth.

She tried to create misunderstanding or misachiever between him and his relatives, we stopped coming or visiting my house and his children too despite the fact that I neither quarrel with him nor deceived or cheated him he even appointed or made me a director in his company, his relatives who were living together with him started having problem with him even sending chasing them away, his mother that is our mother has no power to say or do anything in the house he was even afraid of her, nobody enjoyed coming or visiting his house both relatives and well wishers except the mischeavious, unseropolous and hypocritical ones.

The wife became so powerful in house to the extent that nobody has the courage to challenge her or even advise her, and my brother used to travel almost every week to Lagos or abroad he gave the veto power to do everything about his children even my mother, never included in his home affair even if it affected my mother.

Fortunately with the help of God Almighty my brother begined to understand that this woman was planning something bad in his house he understood he was trying to over power him in his house even in his affairs he had no right to discipline his children or to do what he like in his house.

Therefore the problems started to occur very day and night between him and her, because he became so arrogant behaving as if was a queen or princess while her father was very power Malam, mostly depended on my brother assistance who advised her (the wife) times without number to be playful, obedient, thankful and dutiful to her husband.

But never complied with her fathers advices he continued quarrelling with him, fighting him to extent tearing in his shirts inform of his children sometimes was even trying to heat him with steel or iron.

My brother was in this situation when he started suffering from sickness living in up-stair nobody has right to go there and see him because the wife never allowed, she neither call his relatives nor inform them even me his only full brother, my mother didn’t know exactly what is happening to her son because she is to old getting around 100 years of age she is scared of the wife and living in down stairs while my brother was at up-stairs.

When my mother understood that her son was seriously sick she called me to come and help when I came to see him the wife didn’t allow me to see my brother. So I left without seeing him, I came for the second time she didn’t allow me the something for the 3rd time.

The wife went to unknown doctor and brought some medicine for my brother to take, but he refused to take it, she used my mother to persuade him or even force him to take the medicine but still refused. So later my matter called through phone so when I came I met her standing so worried helplessly waiting for me she held my hand and took me to my brother without taking any permission from the wife I met him in a terrible and unbelievable condition, he couldn’t express medicine for him and compel him take some medicine, and also complained to me about one of his brothers who came and disturbed him despite the situation he found him and told me that he didn’t want to him to be invited any more, because the brother is very arrogant, jealous, wicked and harsh hearted some body and quarrel somebody and quarrelsome too.

After I thought that the best assistance I can offer is rush him to the hospital so I was able to cajole persuade him. So on 16/09/10 we took him to the hospitals the doctors asked him some questions which the wife was not happy about them, so after two day my brother died may God Almighty forgive him and take care of his children Ameen.

Before my brother died he handed over all his land assets to me as a caretaker with authority letter, so after the death few days, the wife started to show her true colour, my brother left behind two wives, five children and his mother who are to inherit him, three children for this wife I am now talking about her, one belongs to the second wife, the other to his former late wife. My mother has the largest share of the estate followed by the children than the least is the share of wives.

So started dictating me what he wants and doesn’t, and that I must give her what ever she wanted, I said no let us fallow the Islamic law since we are all Muslims, ok I shall have over all the properties and money to her or them since I am not among the heirs they don’t like my service and my mother was backing her because they were living together as such she is having control and influence over her, moreover she is afraid of her, she connived with that brother of ours which my brother said he should not be invited who was trying to spoil my name creating problems between me and my mother and the rest of my relatives, this brother who is patternal or half brother called (‘Yan Uba) they all turned against me that I am a cheat a trouble maker and want manipulate the estate, and my mother they instigated her, and removed me from representing her. It tried before to take her away from them, but they didn’t allow me to take my own mother with me, the wife was claiming that my mother is in her hand she is in charge of her, it was my brother gave her our mother together with her stepson.

So I was the only one now struggling nobody was supporting me except the God Almighty, and insisted that is should hand over, and she will close down the company and employ new workers, sack the tenants and close all the houses, so she took me to court where I handed over the properties to them at the long run the estate were distributed.

So I was very much annoyed they have tried to separate my mother from me in order to cheat her because she didn’t know anything about the estate due to old age. The wife started taking away the properties of my mother by force she dashed one house to one boy who was working with my brother who was giving her total support though he is a son to my senior sister but turned to be my dead enemies, and another house is to be sold by the judge to build mosque and school worth N 15 million. 80 my mother fund herself in very terrible situation they were disturbing her threatening me, separating her from me taking her here and there despite her old, high blood pressure, ulcer and heart paining, as such she was always crying. She told me that she couldn’t sleep for almost two weeks.

Later I thought the only way for me is to take this matters to another court, remember I was always pray full day and night myself, too listened to me instantly he sacked my brothers wife and that brother the wicked person away from the court and warned them not to come back and they don’t have any right or business with my mother and finally he asked to go and settle with my mother and comeback after fourteen days.

So after some days I went to settle with my mother together with three of my learned friends who will help in begging her and explaining the matter for her in order to understand me very well, in the process of talking with my mothers the wife came and met us inside my mother room, started shouting abusing us, and threatening me that I will see what will happen to me, I will be ashamed of myself (Sai ka raina kanka) and there will be no reconciliation with me so she distorted the meeting.

So I informed my lawyer we went to the court the court ordered the police to arrest her and investigate the matter since it was the criminal case.

So she arrested the case was investigated and found guilty, but my mother and my friends the witnesses begged me to forgive her since every body in the police station has condemned her, nobody supported her, they advised her to stay away from me, my mother and her properties.

So at the end with the God Almighty grace my mother is my hand in my custody, her, N 15 million house was also recovered but she is still holding the original particulars (papers) of all the houses my mother inherited, but the case is still with court where she filed the case, so we are waiting to see what will happen, but I am very skeptical because the judge seems to be biars and partial.
